Q: I buy and sell cars and I am using the SAGE accounts system, however I am struggling with putting on credit notes and working out the VAT I will have to pay back. Is there any other accounts package that I can use, or one that is designed specifically for the motor industry?

SAGE provides a range of business management software to organisations of all sizes – however it may not be ideal for your business.

The best way to iron out any problems is to speak with your SAGE account manager, who will be able to offer your specific technical advice on the software and how to use it.

There are a number of other accounting systems available. Industry bodies, such as the Retail Motor Industry Federation (www.rmif.co.uk), will be able to provide you further information about the best accounts packages for your business.
