Q: As a small business, how do I make it look as though I am experienced and successful to my customers, even although I have only just started up? If they think I am new to the business, I’m likely to get fewer customers.

Appearing successful and experienced to your customers is all about the image you present and how you describe yourself. Choosing an appropriate name for your business and developing a professional brand image is key.

Be very clear about what you are selling and the value you offer and communicate that through your marketing material. Your own personal presentation is also very important. I would imagine that the reason that you have started your own business is because you have seen a gap in the market for something that people want and you are likely to be able to deliver well.

I would imagine also that you have the experience to deliver a good service to your customers or are employing people that do, so being new makes no difference at all.

You need to look as new as being a positive thing. New can mean fresh, different and focused. If what you are offering is of real value to people they will not mind if you are newly established, in fact they may welcome that. Good luck with your new venture.
