Government 'failing SMEs'
Oct 30 2007
A new report, published yesterday 29 October by BT Business, has revealed that small businesses feel the government is failing to address their needs.
The State of the Small Business Nation report discovered that more than seven out of ten SME owners believed the government could do more to help them.
At the same time 74 per cent of those surveyed called for a simplification of business regulations, with 70 per cent also believing that there should be a reduction in small business tax.
Reacting to the results of the study, Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business, says: 'The world of British business is changing, with hundreds of thousands of new businesses being started every year.
'However, our report demonstrates that there are many areas of concern to small businesses and it's critical that we provide more support and help these companies to thrive and grow,' he added.
The survey also discovered that SME owners feel that they particularly lack expert knowledge in finance, HR and sales and marketing.
