Professional help needed for SEO

Oct 19 2007

Small firms hoping to boost their exposure on the web via search engine optimisation (SEO) have been urged to seek professional advice.

According to the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), companies should always ask the experts about the best techniques if they are unsure what steps to take.

Jack Wallington, programmes manager for the IAB, says: 'Even if someone knows a lot about search engine marketing, it is unlikely they will know everything.

'It is best to at least arrange an initial information meeting to find out the SMEs existing level of knowledge and to identify any weak areas.'

He adds: 'The danger with optimisation, as with many areas of online, is that there is a lot of free advice available on the internet and it is not always possible to know what is correct and what isn't.'

Meanwhile, recent research by comScore has revealed that there were 209 million unique search engine users in Europe in August alone.
