Although outbursts of David Brent-style jargon are thankfully on the decline in most British businesses, occasional references to ‘touching base’, ‘pushing the envelope’ and ‘thinking outside the box’ can still blight a working day. Thankfully, however, there is now a solution.

As a enjoyable antidote to all those middle management moguls still delivering badly worded motivational speeches – which I’m sure we all agree greatly diminish the ’effectiveness potential’ of meetings in any case – an office boredom survival website has devised the game of Bullshit Bingo. This is billed as a sure-fire way of pushing base-touchers firmly back into their own box.

According to ‘LovelyJane’, the game can be played by up to five players, preferably during a meeting, and works along the same lines as regular bingo. Each player comes armed with a scorecard featuring 25 nonsensical phrases, which may or may not crop up over the course of the confab. Then, as references are made to ‘the bottom line’, ‘blame cultures’ and ‘pinch points’, each player simply crosses off the relevant phrases. The first to fill five blocks horizontally, vertically, or diagonally then claims victory by jumping to their feet and bellowing ‘BULLSHIT!’ at the top of their voice.

As a note of caution, however, players do need to remember that such activities may result in them fast-tracking their own knowledge bases to the job centre as they look at the big picture at the end of the day.
