Businesses lack faith in securing public sector contracts in the wake of the Spending Review.

According to a survey of 1,000 businesses by marketing company PeoplePerHour.com, 60 per cent of small businesses which intend to bid for trade in the public sector are pessimistic about winning work.

Some 41 per cent of the businesses surveyed are worried larger competitors will win the lion’s share, leaving them to fight for the less lucrative contracts.

A lack of experience in tendering is another stumbling block, with 75 per cent of smaller businesses having never won a public sector contract.

The majority of companies (72 per cent) say that they would be concerned about the level of bureaucracy they would have to deal with should they win trade.
