Fight for market share is on

Jan 25 2010

The recovery will create a more competitive environment for enterprise, say businesses.

Some 58 per cent of owner-managers believe competition in their industry is set to increase post-recession, according to a survey from Barclays.

Ian Stuart, managing director at Barclays Corporate, says: ‘With confidence returning and growth back on the agenda, 2010 should see UK businesses competing aggressively for market share once more.’

Some 40 per cent of businesses say that increasing sales is a key priority for them in 2010, while 35 per cent say they will be focused on taking market share, and 16 per cent will concentrate on managing cash flow.

Of the 610 surveyed, 24 per cent say they are currently hiring new staff, or will do so early this year, while 46 per cent expect to hire widely in late 2010/early 2011.
