Bid help for Olympic contracts

Small to medium-sized businesses in the West Midlands will be helped to gain contracts for the 2012 Olympics through a new brokerage service.

More than 5,000 small firms have already signed up to a new website, which aims to work as a brokerage service between buyers and suppliers.

At an address to 500 companies this week, John Armitt, chair of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), said: 'We want to help West Midlands businesses take advantage of the opportunities available. Companies of all sizes from different sectors across the country have already won work directly with the ODA.'

Jim Johnston, business manager for the 2012 Games at Advantage West Midlands, described it as 'a great opportunity', adding that it will help to create jobs and increase the sustainable economic growth of the industry.

A number of business events are taking place across the country in the coming months to raise awareness of the opportunities the games provide.
