Q: I have found a manufacturer of baby gifts in China that is willing to supply me. How do I import to the UK? Where can I find more information about importing goods?

This is a complex subject, not just related to the logistics of importing, but finance, duty to be paid. There are health and safety regulations relevant to baby items, and you need to examine certification on the products you import to make sure they comply to regullations in the UK.

A good start is the Business Link in London website, there is a useful guide to importing here.

It might also be useful to take product samples to your local Trading Standards Department to ensure products are safe and meet legal requirements, and whether any certification is necessary.

Hi, I would suggest the services of a good finance & insurance brokerage like mine who has contacts with a range of companies able to assist in importing goods from China. Just email; tony@bluecygnet.co.uk and I will send on details of my contacts. Tony of Bluecygnet Finance
