Q: Why are desktop computers so much cheaper than laptop computers? Are there any major benefits over laptops apart from the price?

The main reason for the difference in price is down to the fact that laptops are a newer product to market. The construction of a laptop is also another factor to its cost, as a portable device laptops contain screen, hard disk drive and battery all in one.
As for benefits, there is little technical difference when you compare latest models. The only consideration is what you are intending to use your computer for? If you are likely to be desk-based, then a desktop computer is for you. If, however, you are likely to be on the move and require your computer at all times, then a laptop should be a consideration.
One thing to bear in mind is that laptops are generally smaller than desktops so viewing the screen for prolonged period can become a strain for some people.
If you’ve not used a laptop before, it’s worth talking to a retailer about what is available.
