Employees in 'best position to highlight security'

Oct 03 2008

Businesses should assess where data is being held and bear in mind that employees are in the best position to highlight any security issues, according to an expert.

Danny Harrison, identity theft expert for the CPP, which helps prevent fraud occurring, says transparency is needed between employers and employees to ensure security measures are being used.

He adds that businesses need to assess who has access to certain files and how these are being stored, in order to prevent a breach.

When security methods are put in place Harrison asserts firms should ensure employees are following them and get regular feedback.

He adds this is the best way for employers to be made aware of any potential or current breaches.

'Employers really need to look at everything that is happening within their business,' Harrison concludes.

Research from the CPP, carried out by Tickbox.net and Opinion matters, found almost half of workers are concerned about their personal details which are held by their employer.
