Call for wider Manchester congestion charge vote

According to the body, December's referendum on the issue will not take into account those business owners and executives who live outside the ten districts to be polled and who commute to the city on a daily basis, trade publication Crain's Manchester Business has revealed.
The group is asking for a separate vote to be held among company owners based in Manchester.
A MORI opinion poll found 50 per cent of business leaders were against the charging, while 30 per cent supported the move, the publication quoted.
Under the proposals, Manchester would be granted £3 billion to improve its public transport infrastructure, while a peak time congestion charge would be introduced.
When the plans were originally announced, Richard Critchley, transport policy manager for Greater Manchester Chamber, said companies should consider them carefully.
He added: 'There is an offer on the table to rebuild the transport infrastructure in Greater Manchester and businesses should give these proposals the attention they truly deserve and decide if it's a deal they can accept.'
