SMEs 'need improved environmental support from government'
Nov 22 2007
The majority of SME businesses believe the government is not doing enough to ensure they are as environmentally-friendly as possible, reveals new research.
According to the annual Sage Heartbeat survey, 80 per cent of SMEs want to increase environmentally-friendly practices while only 12 per cent think the government is doing enough to help them, reports ITB computing news.
SMEs want government to provide them with more money to adopt greener working practices, plus more tax benefits and easy-to-implement measures.
Managing director of Sage's Small Business Division, Jo Ray says: 'It is clear that the government is still not doing enough to support British business in their plight to adopt practices that are not only more environmentally-friendly, but also cost-effective.'
Just over a quarter of SME businesses claimed they did not have the resources to implement environmental policies.
A further 25 per cent said they did not have enough time.
The Sage Business Heartbeat survey is based on responses from 2,017 UK business decision makers on current issues and trends in the sector.
