Businesses should avoid holiday HR headache

Nov 15 2010

SMEs should make sure they don't leave holiday calculations to the last minute SMEs should make sure they don't leave holiday calculations to the last minute

Small businesses must ensure they don’t leave 2010 staff holiday calculations to the last minute, a business support group advises.

The Forum of Private Business (FPB) is calling on companies to work out employees’ holiday entitlements now in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises at the end of the year.

Forum finance and administration director Nick Palin says: ‘By leaving holiday entitlement calculations until the last minute, employers are increasing the likelihood of staff shortages and potential legal problems.’

Calculating statutory annual leave entitlements has become an increasing confusing process for business owners over the years, with part-time staff, maternity leave and sickness absence posing problems for employers, the business group adds.
