Workers want to reduce their commute Workers want to reduce their commute

Commuters want to cut down the time they spend travelling to and from work, according to research from software company Citrix.

Some 62 per cent of workers say they want to reduce their commute, with the most popular solutions being though home working (34 per cent) and varying start and finish times (22 per cent). However, of the 2,000 workers surveyed, 46 per cent say bosses won’t allow them to work from home or work flexible hours.

A recent report from the Trades Union Congress (TUC) calculated that workers spend on average 52.6 minutes commuting every day, with those in London traveling the longest commute at 78 minutes.

Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, says: ‘With employers focused on getting through the recession, many will have taken their eye off the ball in offering flexible working. But remote working and flexible shifts can reduce commute times, save on office space and reduce energy costs.'

This week is National Commute Smart Week, for more information click here.
