Small firms 'value flexible working'

Most small business owners claim flexible working is vital to their success.

Independent research commissioned by IT company Citrix Online shows 81 per cent of small firms believe their performance is driven by flexible hours.

In addition, the survey reveals that 62 per cent of small firm bosses would like to be able to personally undertake remote working, as it would give them more flexibility and control over their day.

Brett Caine, general manager of Citrix Online, comments: 'It's especially encouraging that small business owners are demonstrating a forward-looking approach to flexible working, considering they make up 99 per cent of UK businesses.'

The research also examines the attitudes of employees to remote and flexible working, with 35 per cent saying they value the control the practices give them and 21 per cent appreciating the savings in travel costs.

The Work and Family: Two-thirds of mums are in employment from the Office for National Statistics claimed that women were more likely than men to have a flexible working arrangement, with 30 per cent of female workers choosing this compared to around 20 per cent of male.
