One-third of owners 'resisting recession'

A survey of small business owners by independent financier Bibby Financial Services discovered that 36 per cent claim the ongoing economic downturn has had no impact on their personal lives.
The poll shows that 49 per cent are maintaining their luxuries, such as Blackberrys and company cars, while 63 per cent intend to take their annual holiday or have time away from the office.
In addition, 78 per cent report they are keeping a healthy lifestyle, 70 per cent still have the same amount of time to spend with their families and 67 per cent find their sleep is not being affected by credit crunch concerns.
Ed Rimmer, chief executive of UK and Ireland for Bibby Financial Services, says: 'Whereas previously business owners may have been prepared to neglect their personal lives in order to sustain their business, these days they recognise the importance of trying to maintain some sort of work/life balance.'
Boris Johnson, mayor of London, claimed earlier this year that many of the capital's small firms are confident about surviving the recession and suggested the city will emerge from the downturn in a stronger, more competitive position.
