Q: Please could you advise me on what insurance I should take out. I employ three men who are all self-employed to work for me.

It's a little unclear from your letter whether your workers are employees or not. If they have a contract of employment (which can be implied or verbal), they are employees and in this case you should have employer’s liability insurance to cover them for injury. If your workers are accepted as self-employed by the Inland Revenue, they should be responsible for their own insurance.
In any case you need to have public liability cover which could insure you against your own negligence (or those of people working for you) which causes death or injury to a member of the public. If your workers are self-employed, you should check to find out it they have their own public liability insurance.
There may also be other types of insurance which you might want to consider such as against theft, fire, flood, goods in transit and, if you produce a product, product liability.
