Q: A local limited company closed down last year. It was the name of the town and the trade, e.g. Kent Flowers. I would now like to use this name as a sole trader. Would this be allowed?

To get a definitive answer, it will depend on whether the name is still registered and in whose name. You should contact Companies House, which is the authority that registers and regulates company names.  Either contact them on 0870 33 33 636 or visit www.companieshouse.gov.uk
