Organisations 'are only as good as their leaders'
Sep 30 2008
Firms need a good leader to guide them through tough economic times and efforts should be made to retain any potential management candidates, an expert says.
According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), if you have a strong leader then 'everything else will fall into place'.
Steve Crabb, a strategic advisor at the group, says it is also important to retain potential managers and not to 'cut off that pipeline of future leaders'.
He states that 'in a lull in the economy, people really are the only thing you can count on,' adding communication between leaders is important as a strategy can be devised and a list of values focused on.
Linda Holbeche, director of research and policy at the CIPD, says as the economic troubles continue the UK is seeing a 'fundamental shift' in the way people work, resulting in a necessary change in the nature of leadership.

Saturday 4th October 2008"Organisations are only as good as their leaders" "Firms need a good leader" And here is the challenge, good isn't enough anymore. leaders need to be great, remarkable, inspiring etc.... When you pitch for "good" these days it comes across as "good enough" which is just the same as average. Mike Ashworth Marketing Coach and Consultant Brighton and Hove, Sussex, UK
