Training makes staff invigorated, retailer claims

Sep 01 2008

Employees which have been trained to a high quality 'feel invigorated, motivated and have a desire to do well', according to retailer Lush.

Staff trainer Lisa Titcomb and retail director Liz Bennett from the cosmetics firm claim training workers well leads to higher sales and better retention of employees.

They warn poor training can lead to de-motivated staff which can damage the company's brand.

'When people are demoralised and under-valued then this reaches throughout the whole company and will affect the whole work culture,' the managers remark.

The National Employer Skills survey 2007 has reported that 48 per cent of employers had a training plan and 55 per cent had a budget for expenditure on training.

However, according to researchers, 37 per cent of employees in England were given no training from their employer in the last 12 months.

Some 65 per cent of managers also said they would like to take an extra day to improve their own skills.
