Internet recruitment 'brings better choice of applicants'

Jun 20 2008

Recruiters can benefit from the increase in the number of graduates looking for jobs online, it is claimed.

Jayne Rowley, publishing director for Graduate Prospects, says that the internet makes it easier for applicants to find advertisements for all different types of role and has given recruiters the chance to display 'the full range of possibilities' to graduates.

She comments that this is 'great news' because 'it means [recruiters] are reaching a wide and diverse pool of candidates to enrich their workforce.'

Job-hunters are currently able to receive alerts to new employment opportunities through email, via text message or through their Facebook groups.

Social networking can also act as 'the online word of mouth', with one person letting others know about suitable opportunities.

According to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, the credit crunch has made little difference to graduate recruitment, with many continuing to be 'positive' about it.

Don't forget the graduates who graduated 10 or 15 years ago and have a good many years experience behind them in their careers, but are now looking for more flexible, locally based work due to their family commitments. This is another group of people who it has previously be difficult to reach, but a group which is ideally suited to small businesses as they offer expertise and knowledge in their professional field. There are targeted social networks for just about every group of person you can imagine and recruitment portals such as Flexible Skills Bank (www.flexibleskillsbank.co.uk)
