Apprenticeships in the creative sector 'bring new opportunities'

The government's plans to make 5,000 new apprenticeships available in the creative sectors will bring opportunities to people from all backgrounds, it has been claimed.
Vocational education is one way to encourage people to get into this sector without sending them to university or down other academic routes which they may not be suited to, says Nema el-Nahas, senior strategy officer within business growth at art strategy department, Arts Council England.
She continues that it is important to recognise that apprenticeships are one of a number of 'diverse' ways of training those enthusiastic about the creative sector.
Ms el-Nahas comments: 'These apprenticeships are going to be a really important programme- it gives real hands-on experience for the next generation of talent.'
Figures produced by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport show that the creative industries make up some 7.3 per cent of the British economy - contributing £60 billion a year.
Among 26 commitments the government has made to help to foster the industry include the 5,000 apprenticeships, an annual conference for leaders in the creative sectors and measures to protect intellectual property against illegal file-sharing.
