Sleepless nights for worried workers

Sep 06 2006

Working too hard?
British workers are losing sleep due to work pressures and when they do manage to nod off work is invading their dreams. Alarmingly, a significant number have called their spouse by their boss’s name!

These disturbing statistics have been brought to you through a survey from printer manufacturer Lexmark, which reveals the average British worker misses out on 71 hours of valuable shut-eye a year. Three out of ten dream about work while those who wake up in the middle of the night take an average of an hour and quarter to fall back asleep.

And it gets even worse: 30 per cent have woken up on a Saturday and started getting ready for work as if it were a weekday. Four out of ten spoiled their weekends with work worries, with many getting that sinking ‘back to work’ feeling creeping in around Sunday lunchtime.

Other danger signs were missing loved ones’ birthdays and doctors’ and dentists’ appointments. A quarter of those surveyed have dialed 9 for an outside line in their own homes, while an embarrassed two per cent have called their partner by their boss’s name.

Don’t have nightmares.
