Female entrepreneurs have 'more options'

Jan 23 2008

Those women who pursue entrepreneurship as opposed to a job upon graduating will have 'more options', according to one business expert.

NGCE Flying Start say that it is important for women to recognise the possibilities afforded by setting up their own SME or becoming an entrepreneur.

'We know there were only about 6000 graduate level jobs for art and design graduates in the UK in 2005 and yet there are 56,000 plus art and design graduates,' reveals Dr Lorna Collins, director of the company.

She adds that there is now more awareness of entrepreneurship as a career option due to increased exposure to business at university.

More graduates of both sexes may look to start their own SMEs as more support becomes available to entrepreneurs via the higher education curriculum.

According to research by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor in 2006, the UK has one of the lowest ratios of female established business ownership when compared with the rest of the G8 countries.
