More than two in five business owners do not completely trust their employees with sensitive information
More than two in five business owners do not completely trust their employees with sensitive information, according to intellectual property (IP) specialist Inngot, which polled 1,003 UK business owners.
Some 54 per cent of those who do not trust their staff with intellectual property and confidential data believe they may use such information for their own financial gain.
Two-thirds of respondents, or 69 per cent, voiced concerns that their employee contracts do not provide ‘watertight’ protection against stolen or misappropriated IP.
In a separate poll of 902 employees by Inngot, 38 per cent admit that they would take company data or IP for their own benefit if they left their current workplace.
Martin Brassell, co-founder and CEO of Inngot, says, ‘The intangible nature of these assets is part of their appeal, as it means they are highly portable. In general, the more you use IP and intangibles, the greater their value. However, this is only true if a company can exercise proper control over its own property.’
