Employees taking working lunch

Oct 08 2009

Workers too busy for lunch Workers too busy for lunch

Many British workers are too nervous or too busy to take a full lunch break.

According to a study commissioned by recruitment company HireScores.com, one in four workers rarely take a lunch break, while 23 per cent seldom take their full break, and 14 per cent say they don’t have time to eat lunch.

Lisette Howlett, founder of HireScores.com, says: ‘Despite the fact that members of staff and management may feel as though working through their lunch is the best option for getting through a big pile of work, it’s clear that this is not an effective long term strategy. Taking a break will result in a more productive second half to your day, more than making up for the time you take to relax.’

Of the 1,410 employees surveyed, 36 per cent said they have noticed a dramatic increase in workload since the beginning of the year, with 46 per cent believe this is a direct result of the recession.

A study from healthcare firm Simplyhealth recently found that more than 50 per cent of employees are working through illnesses rather than calling in sick.
