Staff boredom is costing employers money
A significant proportion of workers do not feel fulfilled in their jobs, according to research by talent assessment company SHL.
The study finds that more than one in five (22 per cent) rarely or never feel fulfilled at work, with nearly a third (32 per cent) saying that they are considering a career change.
David Leigh, CEO of SHL, says: ‘Lack of job fulfilment and job fit will have an impact on employee engagement, motivation and therefore productivity and this is not something that employers can afford in the current economic climate.’
Workers in retail, leisure and catering experience the least job satisfaction, with 31 per cent saying of the 1,000 employees surveyed saying they rarely or never feel fulfilled in their job.
Healthcare and education appear to be the most rewarding sectors, with 59 per cent and 51 per cent respectively saying they are fulfilled most or all of the time, compared to a national average of 44 per cent.
According to a recent survey by recruitment consultancy Angela Mortimer, most employees would prefer to work for a small business compared with a large corporation.
