West Midlands small firms receive graduate support

The online Grad Central service, which is funded by regional development agency Advantage West Midlands, aims to attract thousand of university leavers to the area over the next four years.
A key priority of the initiative is to help smaller companies, especially those in locations such as Stoke-on-Trent which have traditionally failed to attract graduates.
Ian Austin, regional minister for the West Midlands, says the area has made improvements in its skills performance over recent years, but still falls behind other regions.
He adds: 'It is vital for the future wellbeing of the regional economy that we retain our talent and I am delighted by the multimillion pound investment from Advantage West Midlands.'
Mick Laverty, chief executive at the development agency, also reveals that the new scheme is part of a wider package to increase the number of graduate workers in the area's private sector.
Last month, the £11.4 million Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarships scheme was launched to attract the world's talented graduates to work on research and development with Welsh businesses.
