Q: If I’m advertising a vacancy, is it OK to interview and appoint someone to that position before the closing date?

I would advise against it, as there is a potential case for discrimination. For example, should someone not be offered the opportunity to apply, and therefore fail to be selected, then they could claim it was due to a disability or their gender or race.

If there is a business need to appoint immediately, I would advise to have documented evidence of this so that you can defend yourself against any potential claims.
