Jun 02 2008
East Manchester entrepreneurs whose companies have been in business for less than two years are being invited to enter New East Manchester's EnterPrize competition.
First prize is £10,000 and there is a £5,000 second prize.
Applicants will be asked to complete a ten-page business plan and five of the best will be offered the chance to pitch their ideas to a Dragon's Den-style panel.
The winning business will be the one that best demonstrates to the panel how the £10,000 would help in the development of the firm.
Chief executive of the North West Regional Development Agency Steven Broomhead says supporting the development of businesses in the area is important for the local economy.
He adds: 'This competition aims to drive an enterprising culture throughout the area and raise awareness of the wealth of business talent that exists in East Manchester.'
New East Manchester is an Urban Regeneration Company founded to help the area to recover from its high unemployment levels.
According to the partnership, some 52 per cent of households receive benefits and unemployment stands at 12 per cent.
