Post: Researching market size

Q) How do I find out how big my market is?

Answered by Jackie Jarvis, MarketingCo.biz,

Once you know who you are targeting specifically you can do some research and find out how many businesses of your target type exist in the market place or how many individuals of the profile you describe exist.

You may also want to know how many players there are already operating in your particular market place.

Information sources include the national statistics office (call 0845 6013034 or visit www.statistics.gov.uk), The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (www.berr.gov.uk)  and the Chambers of Commerce in your area should also be able to help with this.

There are plenty of market research sites that also can help with this data. Here are a few that I know about:

www.freshminds.co.uk,
www.marketresearch.com,
www.snapdata.com,
www.mrweb.com.

You may also find surveys and reports available through your particular industry/trade association websites. I hope this helps.
