Q: I want to carry out e-mail marketing and wonder if the restrictions are the same as with direct mail?

Indeed, they are. There is also now an e-mail preference service where individuals register if they don't want you to send them e-mails. You must cut these out of your e-mail lists for marketing purposes. Contact the Direct Marketing Association (www.dma.org.uk; 020-7291 3300) for further details, or visit www.e-mps.org. A law that came into effect on 11 December 2003 also has bearings on email marketing. Click here for more information.
