Dealing with identity fraud

Aug 18 2005

Absurdly, Companies House (www.companieshouse.gov.uk; 0870-3333636) is not able to correct falsified documents. It will stay on the record unless you ‘resign’, in which case for the period until the date of your ‘resignation’ you will be held responsible as a director. But the period of your ‘directorship’ could be as short as one day as Companies House will accept documents months after the effective date.

If you want to expunge the incorrect record completely, your only choice is to get a court order. You can report the person you suspect of forging your signature to the police and hope that they will take the matter to court. The court would then order Companies House to correct the mistake. If you don’t want to report the person to the police, you need to ask your solicitor to try and get a court order.
