Q: The search engine on my website is less than satisfactory. How can I make it better? I hear that I can embed a Google search bar into my website, is that true and does it come at a cost?

Yes, you can embed a Google search bar into your website, which will allow tailored searches of the whole site or an individual webpage. This is a free service and there is more information about how to set up the service on the Google website (http://www.google.com/coop/cse/).

If you have a large number of stock items, another option may be hosted in-site search applications, which allow you to control search algorithms and also collect data on how people shop on your site.

Improving in-site search helps to increase conversion rates by enabling visitors to find the products they want more easily, but can also help you get a better understanding of your customers and develop an online merchandising strategy.
