Nominations for business-friendly MP awards announced

May 14 2008

The shortlist for the Forum of Private Business's (FPB's) 2008 Business-Friendly MP/MEP award has been announced.

FPB national chairman Len Collinson says: 'These politicians have been prepared to stand up for small businesses, and have spoken out in Parliament on their behalf.

'They have actively represented owner-managers in their own constituencies, and many have been willing to support them by intervening in specific disputes,' he remarks, adding that enterprise helps the wider economy and the taxpayer.

Former winner of the award MEP for the West Midlands Malcolm Harbour remarks that he was 'delighted and privileged' with his victory, which enabled him to meet SME owners and learn more about what needs to be done to promote innovation and reduce red tape.

The award is sponsored by England's regional development agencies and will be presented at a ceremony in Portcullis House in Westminster.

The FPB is a body which represents the interests of about 25,000 SMEs in the UK.
