A fortnight ago our poll asked whether continuity planning was one of your priorities. The majority of you gave a resounding "yes", saying that because small businesses occupy a vulnerable position, planning for the worst-case scenario is a prime concern. Yet 18 per cent warned that in doing so, you could risk losing focus on the day-to-day running of your business.
Worryingly, ten per cent of you feel that planning is a waste of time. It seems that you feel you would be better off dealing with problems as they arise, as you don’t have enough time for such things. Some even thought that nothing drastic could ever happen to your business.
Unfortunately, unexpected circumstances affect every type of business and it’s not easy to second guess what might occur and when. Often, learning from the way in which other people have dealt with their experiences can be a real help.
Have you been able to think on your feet during a disaster or is there a warning you’d like to issue to others who could face a similar position in the future?
