Post: Setting up a UK business from overseas

Q) I would like to start a business or become self-employed and do contract work in the UK but am currently living in Germany. Are there any tax/legal problems to setting up while abroad? I am a UK citizen and have been in Germany for two months now.

There is a section on the Business Link London website with a lot of information and a checklist for setting up and registering as self employed, click here to visit it.

You can also visit the H M Revenue and Customs website: www.hmrc.gov.uk.  It will also be useful to contact them directly by phone on 0845 915 4515 to discuss exactly what your plans are and your current situation, so you can ensure you get the correct information.
