FSB: 'London mayor must help small business'

Apr 08 2008
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has said that whoever is elected as the new London mayor must help small firms in the capital.

More 'affordable' premises are 'really, really vital' to help start-ups without a large amount of finance, Sue Terpilowski of the FSB told BBC One's London News.

And reporting problems should be made easier.

'We should be able to report easily and quickly business crime,' she added.

The congestion charge has also had a large effect on the travel costs to small firms.

'Why can't small businesses with essential business cars be treated exactly the same as residents and pay the lower rate? That would absolutely help small businesses in London,' Ms Terpilowski commented.

In March, the Confederation of British Industry questioned the candidates for London mayor on what they planned to do to help small business and put forward seven proposals which would make a difference to firms in the capital.
