Businesses blasé about green issues

Around 75 per cent of companies with £20 million plus turnover believe that they would take more action to save energy if there was clearer guidance from Government on how to achieve this, says a a new poll of 500 business decision makers by Continental Research.

Futhermore, according to the study, almost 50 per cent of corporate businesses believe that global warming is not a serious issue. Only half of UK businesses were shown to use recycled paper and only a fifth use green-fueled company vehicles.

However, some are making the effort, with 90 per cent turning off the lights when they’re not being used, 76 per cent recycling paper and 72 per cent switching off computers and printers.

Agnes Maisonial, research executive at Continental Research, says: ‘There are positive signs that business bosses are waking up to green issues. A total of 45 per cent of all UK businesses either have or are currently developing a formal policy towards environmental or social responsibility issues; with 63 per cent saying that climate change is as much their company’s responsibility as it is a Government issue.
